Who we are

HistoryRecall is developed by DuttLabs. You can reach us at shankarduttsgd@gmail.com.

Information stored on your device

Your decks, cards, review history, study statistics, streak, daily goal and settings (such as your reminder time and appearance) are stored on your device. They are not sent to us. They do not sync between devices: iPhone, iPad and Mac each keep their own progress.

Apple Watch

If you use the Apple Watch app, your iPhone sends a snapshot of the cards that are due (question and answer text, deck names, your streak and your daily goal) to your paired Apple Watch, and the watch sends your ratings back to your iPhone. This uses Apple's WatchConnectivity framework and goes directly between your own devices. Nothing is sent to us.

Optional AI card generation

AI card generation is optional and does nothing until you add your own API key from OpenAI or Anthropic. When you tap Generate, the app sends the request directly from your device to the provider you chose, using your key. The request contains the subject, the deck name or topic you entered and instructions for the cards to create, and may include questions already in that deck so they are not repeated. Nothing is sent before you tap Generate, and nothing is sent to DuttLabs.

The provider processes the request under its own terms and privacy policy: OpenAI privacy policy, Anthropic privacy policy. Your API key is stored in your device's Keychain and is only sent to that provider. You can remove it in the app's AI card generation settings.

Notifications

The daily study reminder and the reminder before a free trial ends are local notifications scheduled on your device. No push notification service is used, and you can turn reminders off at any time.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple. Apple tells the app on your device whether you have access. We never receive your name, email address or payment details.

No analytics, ads or tracking

HistoryRecall contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code and does not track you across apps or websites. The study statistics you see are calculated on your device.

Importing, exporting and sharing

When you import or export a CSV file, the file goes only where you choose, through the system file picker or share sheet.

Support email

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include, and use them only to reply to you. Please do not send health, financial or other sensitive personal information.

Children

HistoryRecall does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Keeping or deleting your data

Your data stays on your device until you delete it. Deleting the app removes its study data from that device, and removing the Apple Watch app removes the cards stored on the watch. You can remove a saved AI API key in the app's AI card generation settings.

This website

This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking scripts and loads no third-party resources. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, which may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
